Udaipur  is a city in the north-western Indian state of Rajasthan, about 415 km (258 mi) south of the state capital Jaipur. It serves as the administrative headquarters of Udaipur district. It is the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar in the former Rajputana Agency. It was founded in 1559 by Udai Singh II of the Sisodia clan of Rajputs,when he shifted his capital from the city of Chittorgarh to Udaipur after Chittorgarh was besieged by Akbar. It remained as the capital city till 1818 when Mewar became a British princely state, and thereafter the Mewar province became a part of Rajasthan when India gained independence in 1947.It is also known as the City of Lakes, as it is surrounded by five major artificial lakes.The city is located in the southernmost part of Rajasthan, near the Gujarat border. To its west is the Aravali Range, which separates it from the Thar Desert.  Udaipur has a rich cultural heritage from the past e.g. lakes, temples, huge forts, and palaces.Gangaur is a Hindu festival celebrated in the Indian states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Fazilka District of Punjab, the regions of Malwa, Nimar regions (Manawar, Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa) of Madhya Pradesh and the Braj and Bundelkhand regions of Uttar Pradesh. Gangaur is a colourful festival which is one of the most important celebrations of the people of Rajasthan and the Fazilka district of Punjab. It is observed throughout the state with great fervor and devotion by womenfolk who worship the goddess Gauri (Parvati), the consort of Shiva during the Hindu month of Chaitra (March–April)

How to reach to this place 
Udaipur's major cities are connected by an excellent railway network. The Bandra-Udaipur SF Express, Gwalior-Udaipur Express, Mewar Express, Chetak Express, and Annanya Express are all available to tourists. Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Air Deccan are fours popular Airlines connecting Udaipur from main cities of India.
 
By air: Udaipur has a domestic airport with daily flights from New Delhi.  The Dabok or Maharana Pratap Airport is the closest airport to this lake town and lies 22 kilometers from the city center. The Maharana Pratap Airport is nearly 24km from the main city. 
 
There are numerous type of food options when you visit Udaipur and few of them are:-
Daal Baati Churma: Baati are balls of bread prepared from wholemeal wheat or jowar flour; daal is a soup-like mixed lentil dish; and churma is baati that has been crushed into a coarse powder and fried in ghee and jaggery (a kind of cane sugar). These three ingredients make up Rajasthan's most famous cuisine. Curry in the Mewari Style
