Termez, the capital of Uzbekistan's Surxondaryo Region, is Central Asia’s southernmost city and a vibrant Silk Road crossroads. Sitting on the Afghanistan border, it blends 2,500 years of history—from Alexander the Great’s Alexandria on the Oxus to ancient Buddhist cave monasteries and intricate Islamic mausoleums. Termez sits on the right bank of the Amu Darya (Oxus) River. Located nearby is the Hairatan border crossing and the famous Friendship Bridge, connecting Uzbekistan directly to Afghanistan.
