TERMEZ, Uzbekistan

Termez is the capital of the Surxondaryo Region in southern Uzbekistan. Situated on the Amu Darya River, right on the border with Afghanistan, it is the country's southernmost city. With a history spanning over 2,500 years, it was once a major Buddhist center and the site of Alexander the Great's Alexandria on the Oxus. Islamic Heritage: Features significant medieval mausoleums and complexes like Sulton-Saodat, Kokildor Khonaqo, and the tomb of the famous Islamic scholar Al-Hakim at-Termizi.

Termez, the capital of Uzbekistan's Surxondaryo Region, is Central Asia’s southernmost city and a vibrant Silk Road crossroads. Sitting on the Afghanistan border, it blends 2,500 years of history—from Alexander the Great’s Alexandria on the Oxus to ancient Buddhist cave monasteries and intricate Islamic mausoleums. Termez sits on the right bank of the Amu Darya (Oxus) River. Located nearby is the Hairatan border crossing and the famous Friendship Bridge, connecting Uzbekistan directly to Afghanistan. Because of this, it has long acted as an important economic transit point and served as a major supply hub during the Soviet era and subsequent NATO operations in Afghanistan.

BY Air : Traveling by air to Termez, Uzbekistan is done primarily through Termez International Airport (TMJ), located just 3 km from the city center. There are no direct nonstop flights from India, requiring at least one layover. Termez also offers seasonal or direct international flights to Russian hubs like Moscow (VKO/DME) and Saint Petersburg (LED) via airlines such as Azimuth, Uzbekistan Airways, and Qanot Sharq.
