Nicknamed the "Dark Blue Pearl," Lake Khovsgol is Mongolia's largest freshwater lake by volume, holding nearly 70% of the country's freshwater. Located in northern Mongolia at the foot of the Sayan Mountains near the Russian border, this pristine, ancient lake is often called the "younger sister" of nearby Lake Baikal  Popular for kayaking, fishing, and trekking in the summer, it transforms into a stunning frozen expanse during winter, hosting the famous annual Ice Festival. It also serves as a gateway to interacting with local nomadic reindeer herders.

Lake Khovsgol, Mongolia's "Blue Pearl," is a pristine, alpine freshwater lake located near the Siberian border. Holding nearly 70% of Mongolia’s freshwater, it features unmatched water clarity and is surrounded by dramatic peaks and taiga forests. It is a premier destination for immersive, nature-focused nomadic tours. Elevation: 1,645 meters above sea level. Dimensions: 136 km long and up to 262 meters deep. Geology: Often called the "younger sister" of Lake Baikal, it is an ancient lake formed over 2 million years ago by the Baikal rift system.
 
You can reach  Lake Khovsgol from different ways like there are direct flights, direct trains as well as direct buses services available for Lake Khovsgol .
 BY Air : To reach Lake Khovsgol by air, you must first fly from Ulaanbaatar (UBN) to Murun (MXV), the provincial capital. From there, you take a 1.5 to 3-hour shared jeep, private taxi, or pre-arranged transfer to Khatgal, the main village and tourist hub at the southern tip of the lake. do not need a visa if visiting for fewer than 90 days, but your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your date of arrival. For stays of more than 30 days, you must register with Mongolian Immigration within seven days of arrival.
BY Taxi :  flying to Murun town, 102 km from the lake. Then drive to Khovsgol Lake 2.5 hours. The (100 ext{ km}) journey from Murun to Khatgal (the main tourist gateway on the southern shore of the lake) takes roughly (2 ext{ to }3) hours by car.
