The Rainbow Village in Taichung, Taiwan, is a vibrant, hand-painted neighborhood transformed by former soldier Huang Yung-Fu (known as Rainbow Grandpa. Originally a modest military housing settlement slated for demolition, Huang covered its walls, doors, and pavements with whimsical, brightly colored murals to save his communit

Originally, the site was built as temporary housing for Nationalist soldiers and their families after the Chinese Civil War. Decades later, as developers eyed the land, the settlement was slated for demolition. To preserve his community, "Rainbow Grandpa" Huang Yung-Fu—who had no formal art training—began painting the walls with vibrant, childlike characters. His whimsical, brightly colored murals so captivated the public and preservationists that the city ultimately decided to save and protect the site

BY Air :  From Taoyuan International Airport (TPE): This is the largest international hub. You will need to take the Taoyuan Airport MRT to Taoyuan HSR Station, then catch a high-speed train to Taichung HSR Station a quick 40-minute ride. A valid passport with six months validity. Two passport size photos. A copy of your completed and signed online visa application form. Details about your itinerary.
BY Train : From the main station in Taichung you can take bus number 27 to Ling Tung University and then it's a 5 to 10 minute walk to the rainbow village.
